QUEENSBURY – Brandon Warrington appeared to be crying in court Thursday morning even before he learned his punishment for killing Gary Carpenter the Third.

A jury found him guilty of repeatedly abusing the child over a two week period last fall. The fatal blows came when Warrington slammed the boy's head to the walls and floor of the Glens Falls apartment he shared with Carpenter, and the child's mother, Jennie Mattison.

Warrington faced a maximum sentence of 25 years to life.

"I hope you suffer every day for what you did and what you took from me. And there is no forgiveness for what you did. Please suffer," said Gary Carpenter Jr., the victim's father.

The little boy's paternal grandmother, Jessie Carpenter asked the judge to impose the maximum sentence. "I will never forgive or forget what Gary went through at his hands." she said.

When it came time for Warrington to speak, he said, "To this day, I still say I'm innocent. I haven't done anything wrong."

The District Attorney asked for the max, calling Warrington a "master of deflection" and him of having no remorse.

But Warrington's court-appointed attorney, Garfield Raymond, took exception to that. "That's not true. He has remorse, but he is saying 'I didn't do it.'"

But Warren County Judge John Hall wasn't buying it.

"You have absolutely no credibility with this court," Hall told Warrington. "I'm sentencing you to a minimum of 25 years and a maximum of life."

Gary Carpenter's father saying after the sentencing that the real justice will come when Warrington gets to state prison.

"I've got scars from my prison time. I know how it is in there. He ain't going to make it through reception. He's going to get justice the way I feel justice needs to be served."

Mattison will be sentenced next week on her conviction for hindering prosecution. The maximum sentence she can get is one-and-a third to four years in prison.
