Heroin found in the taxi cab by Bennington Police.

Bennington Police Department

BENNINGTON – A police officer pulling over a cab for a traffic stop Thursday evening sensed something wasn’t quite right.

Turns out the passenger in that cab was allegedly carrying more than 400 bags of heroin.

Police got permission from the cab driver to search the car.

That’s where they found the heroin, along with a small amount of marijuana.

Shamel Alexander, 25, now faces drug trafficking charges.

Police say the drugs had a street value of more than $5,000.
