CLIFTON PARK – Residents of a Clifton Park neighborhood are describing how the scene escalated throughout the afternoon Tuesday, leading up to police shooting a man.
It was on Cardinal Court, at a house at the end of the cul-de-sac.
As NewsChannel 13 first reported on Tuesday, police say Douglas Stewart III was standing in the yard holding a loaded rifle. They say when he refused to put the gun down, police fired.
This started as a domestic incident.
Neighbors say a woman who lives in the home was desperately looking for her children.
"She was not able to breathe, she was very panicky. She was looking for her children and she seemed very dazed and confused," said one woman.
"Two state troopers came up the hill and they stopped…One got out a put a bulletproof vest on and also cocked his assault rifle. I didn’t have any sense of where he was going. Literally, two to three minutes after he was there doing that, the shots were fired off and we heard two shots," said one man.
The man who was shot was rushed to Albany Medical Center last night for emergency surgery. Police say he's expected to make a full recovery.
