Lee Police Chief Joseph Buffis
File / WNYT
The town of Lee, Massachusetts has suspended its police chief, one day after he was indicted in federal court for extortion and money laundering.
Joseph Buffis is accused of taking four thousand dollars from a couple who were facing prostitution-related charges last year.
Those charges were never filed.
But the Berkshire County District Attorney tells us he will pursue charges against the couple, who own The Inn at Laurel Lake.
In the meantime, former Police Chief Ronald Glidden will serve as police chief.
