CLIFTON PARK - The accident that seriously injured a West Crescent Volunteer Fire Company firefighter was caused by a drunk driver, police say.
State police now tell NewsChannel 13 that the chain reaction crash was caused by Gary Gerard of Albany.
They say he was driving drunk and struck another car while exiting the Northway at exit 8 around 6:45 on Tuesday evening.
Allen Ayotte, 66, of Halfmoon was responding to a three-car crash near exit 8 of the Northway southbound, when a tow truck struck him.
Ayotte is now being treated for serious injuries at Albany Medical Center.
