Hazmat crews assisted the fire department in cleaning up a minor chemical spill at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering on Fuller Road in Albany, Saturday morning.
Fire officials say they got the call around 10:00am Saturday and immediately called in hazmat. According to Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple, the spill was minor and not considered harmful to the environment or those nearby.
"We activated our county hazmat team, along with Nanotech's hazmat team. The spill is contained. We are going to neutralize the spill. There is no danger to the environment or the public," said Chief Robert Forezzi of the Albany Fire Department.
Three employees were taken to the hospital as a precaution for irritated skin.
Crews had the spill contained by 1:00pm. They are still investigating a cause.
