CLIFTON PARK - The West Crescent fire chief says the firefighter hit by a tow truck has been upgraded from critical to serious condition.
Allen Ayotte is still in intensive care at Albany Medical Center. Chief Bill Bryans says Ayotte has undergone multiple surgeries to repair broken bones and crush injuries.
Police say Ayotte was hit by the truck while directing traffic after a drunken driving-related accident near Exit 8 on the Northway last week.
Fellow firefighters have established a fund to provide for Ayotte's expected lengthy recovery. Contributions to the “Allen Ayotte Recovery Fund” can be sent in care of First Niagara Bank, 1532 Route 9, Clifton Park NY 12065.
The department will also host a benefit breakfast on Sunday, Sept. 8 beginning at 8 a.m. at the West Crescent Fire Department, 1440 Crescent Rd. in Clifton Park.
