Four years ago, it had to be one of the most bizarre stories we reported.
A young man with a huge criminal record who, unwittingly - he said, was running for the Rensselaer County Legislature.
Kevin Gervasio is only 27 years old and already, he has been arrested 51 times, mostly for misdemeanors.
Now, he just got out of state prison for a felony conviction.
He and his mother both had been convicted for scamming an 89-year-old woman out of $1,400.
Now, there’s a new charge of promoting prostitution.
"If I did it, I did it, but this thing right here I did not do,” says Gervasio.
He says all he did was rent a room to 22-year-old Sandi Stott, who got charged with turning tricks out of a home on Waterford’s Northside.
”It’s not my fault that some girl was selling herself…she rented the room from me,” he says.
A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, says three girls were involved along with Gervasio.
Four years ago after Gervasio had just moved back from North Carolina, he found himself running for the Rensselaer County Legislature, on the Working Families Party line.
Telling NewsChannel 13, at the time, that Troy DPW commissioner Bob Mirch put his name on the ballot, without his knowledge
Not long after that, Gervasio and his mother both got convicted of defrauding that elderly woman.
Gervasio was paroled from state prison eleven months ago.
The neighbor says he's happy Gervasio is in the Saratoga County Jail now Gervasio claims that he's trying to stay on the straight and narrow.
“If you look at my record, I was arrested every week. I haven’t been arrested in more than a year, so obviously I’m doing something right,” he says.
Gervasio says he has only one felony conviction.
Under state law, if you have three or more felony convictions, you can be declared a "persistent felon".
That can get you up to life in prison.
Bail is set at $5,000 for Gervasio, but the bail is academic because he would still have the parole violation hanging over his head anyway.
