Albany Medical Center took the wraps off its new, brain suite on Thursday, in advance of it going on line, next week.
It's the only such surgical suite in the Northeast and one of just five in the country.
What makes it special is that there are two rooms sharing a C.T. scanner. That allows surgeons to get real-time pictures during intricate surgeries.
“In today's world, in this initial use of the CAT scan in the operating room, is going to allow us to do procedures more safely and more accurately. I think there's hop that it will change of of the procedures that we do to a less invasive approach that would create new procedures in the future,” said Dr. Alan Boulos, Chief of Neurosurgery.
The surgical suite also has high definition monitors, special lighting and the ability to stream the live pictures into medical classrooms.
