New York's Public Service Commission has approved a proposal to rebuild 14 miles of high-voltage transmission line in Saratoga and Washington counties.
National Grid is doing the work to upgrade the area’s power grid to support the GlobalFoundries chip-making complex.
The project is to protect the reliability of the 115-kilovolt lines and local power grid considering the projected long-term demand by thousands of customers, including the chipmaker.
In January, GlobalFoundries announced plans to build a new research and development facility at its factory complex in Malta, expecting to finish late next year and add 1,000 jobs.
