NEW BALTIMORE - Distracted drivers are more dangerous than drunken drivers. That's according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. He says the problem is getting worse.
The governor spoke at the New Baltimore travel plaza Monday morning.
Cuomo says distracted drivers cause five times more fatality than drunke drivers. He says the only way to solve the problem is to change the behavior of drivers.
“We're going to have 300 signs that remind people don't text and drive. There are 90 locations when you add up all the rest areas, service areas that are on the affected roads where you can pull over and text at a rest area, at a service area like this one. That’s the intelligent way to do it’” the governor said.
If you are caught texting and driving, you will get five points on your license and a $150 fine.
