Gov. Andrew Cuomo came to the defense of one of his aides on Monday.
It was Ben Liebman who complained to the New York Racing Association about a food truck called the Wandering Dago.
After receiving Liebman's complaint, NYRA banned the food truck from the Saratoga Racecourse.
The truck's owners are now suing NYRA.
Cuomo says any state official who didn't object to the name on the truck was "asleep at the wheel."
“This is a state that prides itself on diversity and we are multi-ethnic and mutli-racial. How do we make it work? We don’t allow discrimination of one another. We don’t allow stereotypes, and we don’t allow slurs,” the governor said.
The owners of the food truck are also suing the state Office of General Services after they were evicted from a space near the Empire State Plaza.
