LATHAM – Sixty soldiers from the New York National Guard are on their way to Texas for deployment training.
Ten Blackhawk helicopters left Latham on Wednesday morning. Family and friends were on hand to say goodbye. After training, soldiers will then head to Kuwait.
“When we get there, we’re going to air process there. Then, we’re going to do some more aviation training there. The environment there has got a little more dust and sand, kind of like we’re flying into. So we’re going to do some aviation and environmental training there,” said Col. Albert Ricci, of the New York National Guard.
This is the second tour for the guards. Back in 2008, the same group went to Iraq for one year.
