TROY -- Leaders in Troy joke that their big scissors are getting a big workout.

For Heartspace Yoga on Second Street, opening in downtown Troy was just a good fit, explains owner Andrew Kasius.

"There is a whole community of wonderful instructors and a community very much looking forward to having this space available to them," Kasius said.

On Friday, the grand openings were all for health and wellness businesses -- Diva Nails and Hair Salon on Broadway, Community Massage on River Street, Harmony House Holistic Health Center on 5th Avenue and Heartspace on Second.

But the 36 others that have opened in Troy in the last year are diverse and varied.

"This is becoming a downtown with everything you need.  All the goods and services you need which helps attract residents here," explained Elizabeth Young, the director of the Troy Business Improvement District.

Additionally, small businesses are being provided with budgeting and growth help which adds to their, and the city's, success.

"Not only are we proving a spot and walking away.  We try to make sure everything works together," said Mayor Lou Rosamilia.

Downtown advocates hope the Collar City is a place where you want to spend your money, set up shop and make a home.

"There is a personal investment that you want your neighborhood to be looking good and thriving," added Kathleen Vroman of Community Massage.

All four new businesses will be open Friday evening for Troy Night Out.
