HOOSICK FALLS- Second grader Logan Gatus's favorite little saying is "I am remarkable," and to his mom, he truly is.
That's because Logan is autistic. In Pre-k he didn't speak or like to be touched, and his mom was told not to mainstream him, but to put him in a program with other autistic children. She refused.
He's been mainstreamed. In fact, there are six kids with special needs in Logan's class at Hoosick Falls Elementary School. For Hoosick Falls inclusion is important.
Despite the financial climate that most schools are facing, Hoosick Falls is committed to make special needs kids a priority, because they're part of the community, not just the school community. And, special needs kids aren't left out of the new common core standards.
