LATHAM – One of the last two tenants at the old Latham Circle Mall is shutting its doors.
JCPenney announced it will close its store at the mall, in early January.
The main section of the mall was torn down earlier this year, which means a Lowe's will be the last open store on the property.
Plans have been in the works to build a new shopping center on the site.
The JCPenney store has been there since the 1950s, when the property opened as Latham Corners Shopping Center.
A corporate spokesman says many of the employees will get jobs at other JCPenney stores in the area. The rest will be provided with a severance package.
