EAST GREENBUSH - It's been praised by supporters and blasted by critics, including many parents.
The new Common Core curriculum was front and center in East Greenbush.
Parents, teachers and administrators crowded the auditorium at Genet Elementary to get a better grasp on what many call a confusing new curriculum.
And while recent meetings have become heated, last night's was civil, and administrators made a point of asking everyone to be polite.
After the meeting, parents we spoke said while they still have concerns, they at least have better understanding of what to expect for their kids in the coming school year.
“I think the curriculum and idea behind the curriculum to get the students to think and work through problems and become flexible learners is wonderful. But I'm still concerned about the testing.” says parent Lisa D’Adamo-Weinstein.
And this parent says she's concerned about the testing not only for the kids but for teachers, because many teachers have said they still do not fully understand the new curriculum.
