ALBANY - Commissioner King has also opened the door to some eliminating 'some' standardized tests.

He told NewsChannel 13 on Tuesday he's been hearing complaints about 8th graders who take accelerated math courses.

They are required to take the 8th grade tests 'and' the Regents algebra tests in the same year.

“Given new flexibility made possible by the U.S. Department of Education, the Board voted yesterday to allow us to request a waiver from the U.S. Department of Education to allow those accelerated students only to take the regents exam in algebra rather than having to also take the 8th grade State math exam” say King.

King's comments are too little too late for some.

The group 'Allies for Public Education' is calling for his resignation.
