ALBANY -- A downtown Albany neighborhood woke up to more tricks than treats this morning.

"There were many cars,on both sides of the street, up and down, mine included," explains Lee Dixon.

Close to twenty vehicles, mostly light colored and white, were spray painted, had their tires slashed and a few even got their windows smashed in.

"There's always, like every once in a while, something goes on a couple blocks away but nothing like this has every happened. Not like a string of vandalism like this has ever happened," says another vandalism victim, Alex Demopoulos.

The writing looks like gibberish graffiti.  But one phrase, on all the cars, sticks out: 30 Pack.  A source familiar with the investigation says that's a tag consistent with one of Albany's young gangs.

"Nobody is gonna drive me out of the neighborhood. I live here my rent is cheap, this happened once," adds Demopoulos.

So far, no one has come forward as a witness to police.  It's an area that was pretty active Thursday evening; filled with young kids and their parents who were out trick-or-treating.  So it's believed the damage all occurred really late Thursday night or really early Friday morning.

"It's a relatively quiet street, I'm surprised it happened,' adds Dixon.

Besides vandalism, some electronics were also stolen from the cars.  But no one, according to police, was hurt.

"We didn't really have a lot of incidents last night.  It was a safe night for kids in the City of Albany," according to Steve Smith, an Albany Police Department spokesman.

At least one of the car owners who was hit is already making plans for October 31, 2014.

"Maybe next Halloween I'll stay outside the city," laughs Dixon.

If you heard something, Albany Police want to hear from you.  Also, if your car was vandalized, tagged or broken into, APD is urging you to file a report.
