NEW BALTIMORE – NewsChannel 13 has learned what may have caused a crash that killed a corrections officer in Greene County.

Kevin Scheridan, 53, was hit by a car head-on on Route 9W in New Baltimore right where the road meets the Thruway.

Police say a 17-year-old was driving the other car. The Greene County sheriff says the teenager had just given blood before he got behind the wheel. The sheriff says the 17-year-old veered left and hit Scheridan's car.

The sheriff calls this a pure tragedy and says it's not clear if any charges will be filed against the teenager.

Kevin Scheridan was a corrections officer in Coxsackie. He was very close to retirement.
