Capital Region woman dies in Georgia accident

NEWTON COUNTY – An Albany woman was killed in a car accident in.

Tonya Curtis was a student at the Aviation Institute of Maintenance in County according to her aunt, Joyce Clark Love.

Love says Curtis died trying to help a stranded driver on Interstate 20.

Authorities say while the motorists were assisting each other, 28-year-old Kevin Poynter rear-ended one car and side-swiped the other.

Curtis, who is from Albany, and one other person died.

Authorities believe alcohol was a factor in this incident and charges will be filed against Poynter.
