Police dished out a number of parking tickets on Black Friday, to shoppers who parked illegally in handicap spots.

Albany County’s Sheriff, Craig Apple, says police issued 48 tickets to people who snagged a handicap parking spot without the proper permissions.

Albany Police found the highest number of offenders, with 24 tickets issued.

Colonie Police ticketed 13 offenders, Guilderland only 5.

Several local police did not record any violations, including Bethlehem, Coeymans, Cohoes and Watervliet.

All together, the fines collected on the tickets issued on Black Friday will total almost $8,000.

The program is called “Project Access” and was started in 1994.

Since then, drivers have shelled out more than $301,000 in fines as a result of 52 details.
