A Rensselaer man may be off the hook on sexual assault charges, but he's now connected to another criminal investigation.
Rape charges against John Halacy were dropped, but Colonie Police recently raided his apartment.
Police are stressing that no one is under arrest. The raid was part of a burglary investigation. So far police are not telling us if Halacy is even a suspect.
John Halacy, 24, walked out of jail free after rape charges against him were dropped.
He was accused of having sexual contacts with girls 13 and 14 years old, giving them prescription drugs and taking inappropriate pictures back in February. He's still faces some misdemeanor charges, but the most serious felony charges went away.
The Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office admitted they missed a filing deadline to pursue the case. That was last month.
On Tuesday, authorities say they were at Halacy's Rensselaer apartment, conducting a raid.
They would not say what they were looking for or what they found. The search was in connection to a burglary at this home on Haswell road in Colonie.
The homeowner returned on Friday after spending Thanksgiving away, to find televisions, guitars video games and other electronics missing.
Police say the crime took place sometime in the early morning hours on Thursday.
Their investigation led them to Halacy's home in Rensselaer.
Police say at this point, there are no pending arrests and they won't say if they have a suspect in the case.
Police are calling this an active case. NewsChannel 13 will pass along new information from them on air and online as it becomes available.
