COHOES – On this Valentine’s Day,you could say there is a fight between cupid and Mother Nature. However, it seems like cupid is winning.
Delivery cars are still buried all over the place at Rizzo's Flower Shop because snow is piled up pretty high. This is around the time when they really get busy. The owner says the snow is definitely creating a bit of a problem.
The phone at Rizzo’s has been ringing quite a bit. The florist has drivers scheduled to make deliveries all day.
However, the owner admits he's not getting as many walk-ins as usual. Many people are home -- still trying to dig out from the massive storm and Valentine’s Day flowers may be the last thing on their minds. We saw many residents close by shoveling as we drove through Cohoes. The streets are still very much snow covered.
Businesses like Rizzo's and candy stores count on Valentine's Day to boost their business. They say it's a stressful time to begin with, and they could do without the snow.
“I have nine or 10 drivers on the road. They started early. We’re sending them on short runs and getting them back quick. Hopefully by the time the house deliveries get going all the roads will be a little more cleaned up. So far, so good,” said Louis Rizzo, owner of Rizzo’s Flower Shop.
Rizzo says flowers are being delivered on time, but admits the snow could probably hurt their bottom line in the end.
