Watervliet firefighters were hoping to raise $3,000 for a local World War II veteran who had his benefits slashed.
Instead, they shattered that amount.
More than $4,000 was raised Thursday for Joseph Teson.
As NewsChannel 13 reported over the weekend, the Department Of Veterans Affairs said Teson was overpaid more than $3,000 - and they needed to withhold benefits to recoup the loss.
The Watervliet Fire Department will match the $4,000 raised for a total of $8,000.
