New York State is teaming up with a pharmaceutical company to develop the framework for clinical trials of a marijuana-based medication for children with drug-resistant seizures.
The drug uses an extract from marijuana that does not get users high but could help youngsters with rare forms of epilepsy.
The trial must be approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
The agreement with GW Pharmaceuticals comes as medical marijuana legislation is being pushed to the forefront of state politics.
