A handful of local baseball players heard their names called at this weekend's Major League Baseball Draft.  Shaker grad and current East Carolina junior Jeff Hoffman was selected ninth overall by the Toronto Blue Jays.  Hoffman is coming off Tommy John surgery a few weeks ago and becomes the highest drafted player in ECU history.

In the 7th round Shenendehowa grad and current Virginia shortstop Branden Cogswell was taken by the Oakland Athletics (#222).  A few picks later the St. Louis Cardinals selected St. Joseph's catcher and Colonie grad Brian O'Keefe at #225.

On the final day of the draft two La Salle Institute graduates were selected.  Pitcher Dave Roseboom was taken by the New York Mets in the 17th round (#505) while outfielder J.P. Sportman was selected by the A's in the 27th round (#822).
