Governor Andrew Cuomo plans to double the size of the state’s Narcotics Enforcement Team.
The announcement of 100 new people comes amid a sharp rise in heroin use across the state.
The governor says added efforts will also be in place to supply first responders with antidotes for the drug.
This week, the Republican-led senate delivered 23 heroin related bills to the assembly.
The governor says in 2013 there were 89,000 heroin and prescription treatment admission in New York State – 26,000 more than 2012.
