John Halacy will spend the next four years in prison following his conviction on a second degree rape charge.
The Rensselaer man made headlines last year when a paperwork mistake in the D.A.’s office forced them to reduce rape charges to a misdemeanor.
However, Monday’s sentencing was for a separate rape case.
He admitted to raping a 14-year-old girl.
“I just want to apologize,” Halacy said in court on Monday. “I know what I did was wrong. And I just want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me especially my lawyer.”
Halacy is already serving a prison sentence for a home burglary in Colonie, committed a short time after he got out of jail on the reduced charges.
