Woman’s kindhearted approach helps Watervliet students

WATERVLIET- Geraldine Ferris is a petite woman, but for the past 20 years, she’s had an extremely big heart when it comes to helping students at Watervliet Elementary School get the best education.

That education doesn't always take root in the classroom. Sometimes it starts with planting a garden. Food is a big deal here because sometimes providing it is hard for some parents. Shelter is sometimes a problem too for some parents.

In fact, whatever the need, Mrs. Geraldine, the outreach coordinator, is there for the kids.

From kind words, to collecting for Thanksgiving giveaways to students, to giving a parent a jump. Mrs. Geraldine realizes it all adds up to preparing a student to learn.
