Gaglioti, MacTurk elected to Board of Education

Mohonasen residents approved the district’s 2017-18 school budget with 835 yes votes and 310 no votes, a margin of 73 percent.

“We truly appreciate everyone who came out today to vote on the school budget, bus proposition and board of education candidates,” said Superintendent Dr. Kathleen A. Spring. “We are grateful for the community’s continued support of our schools.”

Voters also approved a $420,000 bus proposition to  purchase two full-size, 66-passenger school buses, 1 full-size, 72-passenger bus, and one small bus equipped with a wheelchair lift. A total of 857 voted in favor and 287 voted against, a margin of 75 percent.

Residents elected incumbent Lisa Gaglioti (828 votes) and former board member Stacy MacTurk (860 votes) to the Board of Education. Candidates ran at-large and were elected to unpaid, three-year terms that begin on July 1.

The $50.94 million budget carries a 5.32 percent spending increase over the current year and a 2.83 percent increase in the tax levy, which is below the limit of 6.07 percent as initially calculated by the state formula.
