Combining opioids with anti-anxiety medications may increase the risk of overdose.

A new study from Stanford University looked at over 300,000 adults. They were prescribed an opioid during a two year period. Patients who were also taking anxiety medications had a much higher risk of overdose than those who weren't.

Researchers say doctors should be cautious when prescribing opioids for patients taking any type of psychoactive drug.
