Bitter cold can lead to dry eyes

If your eyes are dry and itchy, you are not alone and it may be due to the bitter cold.

As you turn up the thermostat in your home or office to stay warm, that can leave your eyes dry and itchy.

Experts at the University of Alabama Birmingham say using a humidifier can help to restore moisture to your eyes.

Drinking lots of fluids can also help.

If you do venture outside, protect your eyes with a mask, scarf or hat with a visor.

As tempting as it may be, do not let heat blow directly onto your face.

Dry eyes can sometimes progress to dry eye disease -- so if the symptoms persist or worsen, it's a good idea to see your doctor.
