Cluster headaches are difficult to treat, but a new device could help.
The gammaCore nerve stimulator was approved Tuesday by the FDA. The handheld device transmits a mild electrical signal to the vagus nerve, which runs all the way from the brain to the colon. In tests, it helped about a quarter of cluster headache patients who tried it.
The device should be available in the United States later this year.
