General Electric being investigated by federal regulators

General Electric is being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In its fourth quarter earnings report, GE said it was taking a $6 billion charge because of miscalculations by one of its units.

The SEC says it will investigate the accounting practices used by North American Life and Health to estimate its costs.

GE stock has fallen 43 percent over the past year.
