JCPenney to close Berkshire Mall store

The JCPenney in Berkshire Mall is closing.

The closure is among 138 stores being shuttered nationwide. The company says it’s part of an effort to "advance growth and drive profitability."

No other stores in our area are on the closure list.

However, NewsChannel 13’s media partners at the Berkshire Eagle report Penney’s will be the third anchor store to close at Berkshire Mall in the last 18 months, after Macy’s and Best Buy.

Once Penney’s closes, the two remaining anchors will be Sears and Target.
