Rensselaer County Executive presents 2018 budget

Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino presented her final budget proposal to the county legislature on Friday.

It calls for spending just over $340 million in 2018. The property tax levy will increase by 2.1 percent. But because of the equalization rate set by the state, the average tax bill will remain at $619.28 per $100,000 property value.

Jimino says 89 cents of every dollar collected in the county goes to state mandated programs like Medicaid and pensions.

Jimino isn’t seeking re-election next month.
