Troy detective accused of stealing money from police union

TROY - A Troy police detective is under investigation, accused of stealing $6,200 from the city’s police union.

Aaron Collington, 48, used to be president of that union. Investigators say he used the money to pay back rent on an apartment and have a boot-locking device removed from his car.

Collington resigned from the union in September.

He was arraigned on third-degree larceny charges Wednesday morning and released on his own recognizance.
