Man sentenced for shooting DEC officer during illegal hunt

A Columbia County man, who admitted to shooting a New York State environmental officer while hunting illegally, was sentenced on Monday.

Alan Blanchard received six months in jail and five years’ probation. He also paid back $20,000 in restitution on Monday and must perform 100 hours of community service.

Blanchard was hunting in the darkness with a friend last November, when he shot Officer James Davey in the leg. Davey and a fellow DEC officer were investigating reports of deer poaching.
