The Albany County Winter Festival kicked off Saturday at Lawson Lake.

Kids and their families had a chance to enjoy the outdoors and all that winter fun has to offer. But parts of it was canceled this year because of a lack of snow.

Activities that did happen included ice fishing, tractor rides, a hovercraft demonstration, and an ice rescue demonstration. But falling through ice wasn't a concern on Saturday.

“We talk about the ice thickness. Today we're good. Everyday we're monitoring it. It's ten inches out there. The shoreline is all perfect right now,” said event organizer Brian McCoy.

The winter festival continues Sunday. But the "Take a Friend Snowmobiling" event has been canceled.
