A group of area youngsters had a chance to fulfill their Olympic-sized appetites on Wednesday.

It was part of the Albany Public Library's "Ready, Set, Read" program where kids were able to decorate their very own sugar cookies with Olympic rings to celebrate the 20-16 Olympic games.

The program has a multi-fold purpose beyond cookies and creativity.

"I was thinking about the USA Swim Team: Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky, Missy Franklin," noted Suyong Lee, as she designed cookies.

"We're surrounded by books so the conversation starts turning, have you read this? Have you read that? Then usually it sparks that love of reading so it becomes a lifelong love for them," explained Melanie Metzger, the assistant Librarian

The Olympic theme continued Wednesday at the North Albany Library Branch with the showing of the movie: The Gabby Douglas Story.
