Mohonasen student raising money to fund trip to Washington march

Children and families will march on the streets of Washington, D.C. and across the country on Saturday. They're demanding their lives and safety become a priority and that gun violence ends in schools.

A Mohonasen High School student is raising money for a bus, so students from her school can attend the rally in D.C.

She is 16-year-old Anna Sherman and as of Tuesday afternoon, she's raised a little more than $2,400. She needs $3,200 to cover the costs. She's hoping more people will jump on board.

Sherman will be among the more than 500,000 people expected to be in Washington, D.C. this weekend. She feels very strongly that her generation will be the force behind changes in gun laws and school safety concerns.

Her bus is scheduled to leave Rotterdam at 4 a.m. on Saturday. So far, about 35 students have signed up as well as several parents who support their efforts.

Marches and events are scheduled to take place in Albany, Bennington, Cambridge and Pittsfield.

The "March For Our Lives" website has a complete list of participating locations.
