TROY -- New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is giving the state attorney general authority to investigate how the district attorney in Rensselaer County handled a fatal shooting at the hands of a Troy police officer.

Edson Thevenin was killed in 2016. Rensselaer County District Attorney Joel Abelove presented the case to a grand jury, who cleared the officer less than a week after the incident.
