Body found in Hudson River confirmed to be missing woman

The body of a woman recovered from the Hudson River is now confirmed to be missing woman Okelly Yhap. She was last seen on Sunday in Albany.

Rescue workers brought the body onshore at Henry Hudson Park in Selkirk.

Emergency crews were first called Tuesday morning, after boats passed a body in the Hudson River.

The recovery effort took a while. After so much rain, the river is high and muddy. However, a white t-shirt made the body a little easier to find, investigators said.

Initial reports were that the body had a life vest, but that proved not to be the case.

The body was brought ashore at the Bethlehem Canoe and Kayak Launch.

A Selkirk fire boat went down south of Coeymans to buoy 198 and didn’t find a body, so they came back up.

“I got the caller back on again. They told me they were up by the boat builder in the Port of Albany. So then I knew the location,” said Selkirk Fire Chief Thomas Neri. “I used their speed to calculate the distance. I figured it was about a mile and a half from the Albany line. That’s where they found them. They found them just north of the town of Bethlehem Boat Launch. Probably an eighth of a mile away from the boat launch.”

Her death does not appear suspicious, investigators said.
