Spike in Capital Region fires leads to Red Cross safety reminder

The Red Cross is urging fire safety after a spike in home fires across the region.
Over the final week of 2017, the Red Cross responded to 24 fires in the area, providing help to more than 80 people displaced.
The number of fires is more than double the fires during the same period in 2016.
The Red Cross blames the increase on the extreme cold weather. Still, they say most of the fires are easily avoidable.
