Car crashes into Schenectady elementary school during off-hours

SCHENECTADY - An elementary school in Schenectady was closed Wednesday after police say a man drove his car into one of the classrooms, then fled the scene.

This happened just after midnight at King Elementary.

Estevon Tirado, 22, was tracked down a short distance away and arrested after a brief foot chase and struggle with officers. He is now facing several charges – including criminal mischief, assault and resisting arrest.

Police say it appears he failed to negotiate a curve near Delamont Avenue and Steuben Street.
