Cohoes fire recalls 1988 blaze

COHOES – Thursday’s fire in Cohoes is said to rival a massive fire in that city in 1988 also involving Remsen Street.

On that day, flames destroyed nine buildings and three businesses. Ladders melted and firefighters estimated the temperature of the flames at 1,000 degrees.

But also on that occasion, with the help of neighbors, police and firefighters, no one was seriously injured.
