COLONIE - 17 seconds, that's all it took.
Just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday, someone smashed their way into NY Shooter Supply on Central Avenue in Colonie. He broke the glass on the front door. The thief headed straight to one case in particular, smashing that to pull out five Glocks as lights flash and sirens blare. And then-- the burglar is out.
Matthew Musto, the store owner, says he got a call from the alarm company in the middle of the night, followed shortly by another call from police.
"We did a very quick inventory, confirmed that it was just five handguns that were missing out of the inventory and we're just hoping somebody recognizes this guy based on the video and we can get him quickly," he said.
Five Glock handguns were stolen: three 9mm and two .40 caliber.
"He absolutely looked like he knew where he was going," said Musto. "I'm sure that he's been in the store. I'm sure that he's looked specifically at where these Glocks were and what he wanted to grab. He came in for them, broke in, left immediately."
Investigators are also looking through past video from the store, in case their suspect had been in there before.
The burglar left on foot.
"We did utilize a canine from the city of Albany PD and they tracked what we believe is the suspect to an area on Mordella Road just in from Central Avenue and that's where the track ended," said Colonie Police Lieutenant Robert Winn.
It was brazen to strike at this well-protected and highly visible business on busy Central Avenue.
Musto is doing whatever he can to help catch the thief.
"More than uneasy. I'm sick to my stomach. I don't want somebody out there that clearly shouldn't have guns, to have guns. He's clearly not a good guy," said Musto.
Colonie police would like to see any surveillance video from around that area.
