Washington County coyote tests positive for rabies

FORT EDWARD -- The coyote shot and killed by ENCON officers on Thursday has tested positive for rabies, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The animal is believed to be the one that lunged at a man on Tuesday as he walked his dog near the Feeder Canal Bike Path.

The same animal is thought to be the one that attacked a woman as she was taking photos by the canal on Wednesday. The woman was left bloodied with arm, leg and head wounds but is now recovering.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is urging anyone who may have been in contact with the animal to contact them at 518-747-4623 or call the Washington County Department of Health at 518-746-2400.

The bike path remains closed.
