Greene County woman sentenced for stealing $3 million from employer

A Greene County woman has been ordered to spend five years in prison for stealing more than $3 million from her employer.

Diane Backis, 51, must also pay back $3.5 million to the company, Cargill.

She pleaded guilty more than a year ago to mail fraud and filing a false income tax return.

She worked in accounting at the grain company, which is located at the Port of Albany.

Federal investigators say her actions caused the company to lose tens of millions of dollars.
